Mark Schauer Endorses Haley Stevens for Congress in MI-11

Schauer Says Stevens Will Fight for Michigan’s Middle Class and Manufacturing Sector

BIRMINGHAM, Mich.– Today, Haley Stevens, chief of staff of the auto rescue and digital manufacturing executive, is excited to announce Rep. Mark Schauer’s endorsement of her congressional bid in Michigan’s 11th District. Schauer, the former Michigan legislative leader, congressman and 2014 Democratic gubernatorial candidate, released the following statement:

I’m proud to support my friend Haley Stevens for Congress. Haley’s story reminds me of my own – she is the child of a teacher and was fortunate to have a middle-class Michigan upbringing. She knows that Michigan’s economy was built on a strong middle class with a thriving manufacturing sector, and she’ll fight like hell to protect it.

In Congress, Haley will make us proud by advocating for Michigan workers, students and seniors. When the auto industry was going bankrupt, Haley helped turn things around as chief of staff to President Obama’s auto rescue. Haley will bring that same grit and determination to Congress to help turn things around in Washington, too. It’s time for new leaders to step up, and Michigan’s 11th District has a fighter in Haley Stevens.

In response to Mark Schauer’s endorsement, Haley Stevens released the following statement:

I’m honored to have Mark Schauer’s endorsement in my race for U.S. Congress in Michigan’s 11th District. Mark is a true public servant. He spent his career in Congress and the legislature advocating for Michigan families, and I will carry on that legacy of economically driven, Michigan-focused leadership when I head to Washington.

Stevens, who was endorsed by the Teamsters in September, leads the Democratic primary field in cash on hand by a 2-1 margin – announcing over $500,000 in contributions and $416,000 cash on hand at the conclusion of the third fundraising quarter on Sept. 30.

Michigan’s 11th District was named a “toss-up” race following Rep. Dave Trott’s retirement announcement in September and is one of the most closely watched congressional races in the nation.

Haley Stevens has dedicated her career to saving and growing good-paying jobs in Michigan. During the Great Recession, Haley served as Chief of Staff on the Auto Task Force inside of the U.S. Treasury Department. Most recently she led a national workforce development program and created the country’s first online training program for digital manufacturing, which is already changing lives. She has led innovation programs across the country, helping small and medium sized manufacturers grow. Haley was born and raised in the 11th District, and is a graduate of Seaholm High School.
